Although provision for youth was not part of the original Parish Appraisal, this is an area which needs addressing. The younger age group is well served by local organisations, but, apart from the Young Farmers and Guides, there is almost no provision for teenagers, with resultant problems in the Square.

Recommendations

The Youth Room at the rear of the Memorial Hall should be reopened to our young people, to be prepared, run and supervised primarily by members but with a rota of adults available in the vicinity in case of need members' parents should be encouraged to participate fully in such a facility.

A qualified youth leader should be sought.

' A Sports Centre is a great local need, a Centre which is accessible to everybody, i.e. disabled and people at work '

In addition, local people with particular expertise such as climbing or windsurfing, could be asked to share it with interested members. Approaches should be made by the youth themselves, and others, to parishioners known to possess skills, which may be of interest to young people. Names of those willing to share their knowledge should be passed to the Parish Council.

A community mini-bus would enable access to a wider range of experiences for local youth.

Ideas for the provision of a skateboard ramp to designs already provided by local skateboarders should be explored and implemented with full involvement of future users.

Possibilities for youth to use, and supervision of extant facilities such as those at the Primary School should also be explored, in consultation with the Headmaster.

' We need a tourist information office '

Local young people should be invited to join the LETS scheme to give them access to goods and services, which may at present be denied them owing to shortage of sterling.
