Telecentre

Premises have been offered in the Memorial Hall extension from January 1999, and elsewhere. Equipment is available immediately. The telecentre will provide vocational training leading to recognised qualifications; business training; village diary of events; local skills' register; accommodation available etc., with a future link to the INTERNET. It would be linked with colleges which can provide distance learning materials. Local organisations would also be able to use the telecentre for their administration and accounts.

Provision for Youth

Youth are being consulted concerning their needs. Skateboard ramp designs have already been submitted by the skateboarders and a suitable site is sought. The primary school head is keen for the playgrounds to be available to all. Funding for additional equipment e.g. basketball nets on the playground is being sought. Outdoor activities as required e.g.. Tamar Lakes. A qualified youth leader should be sought.

Church Hall Project

A project team should be created to assess the feasibility of renovating the old Church Hall as a community multi-use facility for all age groups, particularly youth groups.

Community Mini-bus

Enquiries are already being made to the Torridge Transport Group concerning funding the purchase of a vehicle and the running of such a community service. The mini-bus could be used by local organisations, as well as for transport to other villages and towns. Disabled access is desirable.

Parish Map

A large display map should be created in a case on the Square or in the Memorial Hall extension, with information on points of interest, wildlife, walks, accommodation, local attractions etc. Involvement of the community is envisaged so that the map truly represents the village. This should be done in conjunction with the preparation of leaflets for walkers and cyclists.

Cycle Routes

It is important to encourage the use of cycles by the creation of safe cycle routes and bike-racks. Contact will be made with local cyclists, the Highways Dept. and Sustrans Cycle Route regarding route marking, safety measures and signing at dangerous junctions such as that at Bradworthy Mill. The Torridge Agenda 21 Group has been approached for a cycle rack for the village centre.

Community Access Woodland

Farmers at Berridon, about a mile from the village centre, along the once wooded Waldon Valley, have already collected a substantial number of signatures indicating local support for their plan to create a mainly native broad-leaved woodland on 18 ha. of their farm, allowing full community access. We would like to give this scheme every support.
